| [Article] Gothic 3 graphics at the limit with CP v1.74 and PCGH-Ultra-Config |

The German website PCGames Hardware (PCGH) now offers a configured ini-file with which the graphics of Gothic 3 CP v1.74 can be brought to an extreme graphical quality never seen before.
This however comes at a price: At maximum detail and tweaked ini, Gothic 3 uses up to 5 Gigabyte of memory. Also at that level Gothic 3 needs a very strong CPU: PCGH recommends using an overclocked quad core…
On the PCGH website you will find more than 30 screenshots made at 2560 x 1600 resolution using the latest Geforce GPU in a high-end PC also featuring an SSD. When playing G3 this results in just about 30 frames per second. Even Crysis would yield a higher frame rate on such a system... We all knew that Gothic 3 is hardware-hungry but this is... insane.
Also the website pubished a HD video in 720p resolution. It shows what Gothic 3 can offer with CP v1.74: FP16-HDR-Rendering including Tone Mapping, Spherical Harmonics, Soft Particles, Bloom, Rim- und Per-Pixel-Lighting, Depth of Field, Soft Shadows, Parallax- and Bump-Mapping and Ambient Occlusion.

After weeks of anticipation and speculating, the community story project team has finally quenched our thirst with their "Easter Special". In their article, accompanied by a new teaser on youtube, they disclose some information about their ongoing work on revamping the world of Gothic 3, storywise. A lot of the things that were missing in the original game, shall be there once more, including a new magic/fighting system, return of the chapters, of fractions, of backstory and more.
The team expects to release their work by the end of 2010. We wish them best of luck!

A petition has been started by the WoG community to request JoWood Entertainment AG and Trine Game Studios to release the source code of the title Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods.
By releasing the source code, the community would be able to modify and release fixes for the known problem issues.
We humbly ask the sincere attention of JoWood and Trine with regards to this matter, and would hope that they are willing to help the community and see a release as mutually beneficial.
Dear reader, if you wish to support the petition, please sign in the thread, once.

| [Community] Gothic 3 Community Patch 1.73 released |

|
|
 |
|
 |
|
|
|
|
The new Community Patch v1.73 was released. This will be the final patch, made by the Community Patch Team. Some points from the changelog:
Graphics- + HDR Rendering.
- + Soft particles.
- + Improved bloom effect.
- + Leaf subsurface scattering (only with activated Rim Lighting and Shader 3.0).
- + Heat haze. (At minimum Shader 2.0. Always on, exception: few fire places, because the world has not been recompiled).
- - Terrain shadows on faraway trees corrected.
- - Some texture/material changes.
Framework- - Texture/Shadow/Light flickering eliminated (occured on ATI 4xxx serie cards).
- - Bug corrected where audio system always cached out sound even if property said “no”.
- - Some minor bug fixes and improvements.
- + Added czech manual to installer.
- - Modding manuals updated.
For more updates please take a look at the changelog. Important notes from the patch team:
The patch can be installed on all g3 versions and is available for all languages. It‘s only for original G3 game, not for Forsaken Gods.
The CP 1.73 contains all previous patches. So you need only this patch to update Gothic 3.
1.7x savegames are compatible with CP 1.73. Older savegames (1.60 or earlier) are not compatible.
If you have installed modifications then save it before installing the patch. The patch will delete all superfluously files during the installation. We can‘t guarantee that all modifications will work with the CP 1.73.
If you have installed the quest pack then you should install it again after the 1.73 installation.

Our friends from PiranhaClub and Mighty DWARF have released the ModPack v.1.7.2 including the Modstarter 1.2. With the Gothic 3-Modstarter modifications for Gothic 3 can be managed.
The new Modstarter has been modified for the Community Patch 1.7x and is supposed to be able to handle everything that has been described in the CP1.7x handbook for Modder.
The Modstarter was already working with CP1.6, but to guarantee compatibility of the MDS to CP.17x whole new parts of the Modstarter had to be developed.
More details can be found in the following thread in the "Gothic Modding" section" of our forum: [1.7x]Gothic3 - Mod Starter (v1.2) by PiranhaClub & Mighty DWARF

A hotfix for the recently released Community Patch has been released. This patch concludes the work the Community Team has put into fixing Gothic 3.
Unlike the actual patches, you can continue using your old save games with the hotfix. Community Patch 1.70 is, however, required for the hotfix. There is also a possibility that hotfix 1.71 is incompatible with some mods, so backing up your Gothic 3 installation is advised prior to installing.
